Abelisauridae (meaning "Abel's lizards") is a family (or clade) of ceratosaurian theropod dinosaurs that thrived during the Cretaceous period and is also known as the Kem Kem Abelisaur. Coining the type Abelisaurus genus was named and described by Argentine paleontologists in 1985. Abelisaurus was the first of the "Abelisauridae" group of carnivorous theropod dinosaurs, a relatively new group that seems to have been most common across southern continents such as South America and Africa. Abelisaurus is portrayed as a medium to large theropod dinosaur and as studying the fossilized dinosaur bone from Morocco, the paleontologists deduced that they may have weighed about 2,000 kg, and is actually primitive (basal) members of the group and coexisted with other well-known Large Theropods of that area and time, such as Carcharodontosaurus and Spinosaurus.
