Tyrannosaurus Rex in the Lance Creek Formation
The Lance Creek Formation is a geological formation located in the western United States, known for its rich fossil record from the Late Cretaceous period. One of the most famous dinosaurs found in this formation is the Tyrannosaurus rex, a large carnivorous dinosaur that roamed North America around 68 to 66 million years ago.
Tyrannosaurus Rex
Tyrannosaurus rex, often abbreviated as T. rex, is one of the most well-known and studied dinosaur species. It was a massive theropod dinosaur with a length of up to 40 feet and an estimated weight of around 9 tons. T. rex had a large skull with powerful jaws lined with serrated teeth, well-adapted for hunting and consuming large prey.
Discovery in the Lance Creek Formation
The first Tyrannosaurus rex specimen was discovered in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana in 1902 by paleontologist Barnum Brown. Since then, numerous T. rex fossils have been found in various formations across western North America, including the Lance Creek Formation in Wyoming.
