Name: Globidens

Type: Carnivore.

Size: 6 meters in length.

Globidens was a large mosasaur with a bite force of 9.7 tons, the strongest bite of any mosasaur species. It grew up to 6 meters long and weighed 2 tons and was similar in appearance to other mosasaurs. They lived from 75-67 million years ago during the latter part of the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era. It was similar in appearance to other mosasaurs. They had rounded teeth that had a 'globe shaped' upper portion of the crown that sat upon a slightly narrower base. The teeth and strong jaw of Globidens would have allowed it to tackle potentially tougher and more heavily armored prey such as turtles and ammonites, even the larger Prognathodon could handle which would be the reason why it had such a massive bite force. It did have scleral rings meaning that it either hunted at night, in the depths or both.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:

Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in Morocco do a very professional job, of unearthing and preserving these natural treasures, however, commonly natural cracks are visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossil and are not considered defects.
